Orchestra Information

2010-2011
Hernandez Middle School Orchestra
1901 Sunrise Rd. Round Rock, Texas 78664
April 9, 2010
To the parents and students of the 2010‐2011 Hernandez MS Orchestra,
It is with much enthusiasm that I write this letter to welcome you into the Hernandez Orchestra. The time has come for your child to attend one of the HMS Instrument Selection Nights! At this event, your child will get the opportunity to handle each of the string instruments, get sized, and choose the one that fits him/her best.
Here is a little information about each instrument that is offered:
~Violin This is the smallest and highest member of the string family
~Viola Very similar to the violin but lower in pitch
~Cello This instrument is always played sitting down
~Bass Largest of the string family, the bass is played standing up or on a stool
It is recommended that you do not purchase an instrument the first year of instruction. There are several local music stores in Austin and Round Rock that rent out all of the string instruments for reasonable amounts. If there is a financial need, the school owns several violas, cellos, and basses that can be provided for the year.
About Instrument Selection Night:
Date: April 26 & 27
Time: 4:00-6:30 p.m.
Location: Hopewell Middle School Orchestra Room
The screenings will be scheduled in 20 minute intervals. Please email or call to schedule the date and time of your child’s screening. If you get my voicemail, feel free to leave your child’s name and the time you want to come. If you cannot make either of these dates, we can work together to set up an alternate time.
Looking forward to meeting you,
Clarissa López, Orchestra Director
